Academic Outfitters: using our collective expertise to outfit vocational training, career mentorship & access to employment opportunities

Who are Academic Outfitters?

We are a team of individuals based in the UK and Ghana who are committed to using our collective expertise, knowledge, networks and experience to provide mentorship to aspiring Ghanaian youth today, so they are among the best in tomorrow’s workforce. We are called Academic Outfitters because we remain convinced that academic achievement should be ‘outfitted’ with a package of vocational training, career mentorship and access to employment opportunities. We have teamed up with individuals from key diaspora organisations such as Star 100, FOG and 1st Step Ghana in order to realise this goal.

What do we do?

Our aim is to facilitate access to professional mentorship of aspiring Ghanaian youth today, so they are among the best in tomorrow’s workforce.  In order to do this, we deliver contextually relevant professional mentorship programmes to cohorts of Ghanaian university students and recent graduates both remotely and face to face, on an annual basis.

We will deliver a two day workshop in October 2018 and it will be entitled ‘What Does My Employer Want From Me?’ Our workshop will aim to introduce students to the essential skills and expected behaviours from young professionals wishing to launch and build a successful career, from the perspective of local employers and industry experts.

Our Engagement Survey

In order to deliver a workshop that is as relevant to the Ghanaian job market as possible, we are asking employers and industry experts, to complete a brief engagement  questionnaire to help us identify the most important issues and topics they feel will need to be addressed the most during the event. We will use the information gathered from the survey to not only inform the event, but use it to tailor the content of our future programme activity.

This is why Academic Outfitters needs your help! If you are an employer (Chief Executive, Director, President), recruiter or hold a management position in any company in Ghana we need you to lend us your views about student and graduate employability in Ghana. The  5 minute survey can be found when you click here. You can also find out more information my contacting us at info@academicoutfitters.com, or by connecting with us on Twitter: @outfitters_ngo.
